Johnathan Motley has become the first player to join Turkish League champions Fenerbahce this offseason. The club announced earlier that the American forward/center signed with the team for the next two seasons.
Motley was on Fener’s radar for some time, and he will become the main piece in the front line of the team, especially if Jan Vesely leaves. The Houston native spent last season playing for Russian side Lokomotiv Kuban.
He started his professional career in the NBA playing for the Dallas Mavericks and the Los Angeles Clippers and spending most of his time in the G League. He was part of the All-NBA G League Second Team from 2018 to 2020.
Motley moved overseas in 2021 and played for Incheon ET Land Elephants before moving to Lokomotiv Kuban last season. He stayed there until the end of the 2022 season and made his first appearances in EuroCup before the EuroLeague decides to ban Russian clubs.
Motley set to compete for the top scorer award in EuroCup, averaging 21.2 points, 7.0 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 9 games prior to the Russian club withdrawal from the competition last March. He put up 18.4 points, 6.3 rebounds and 2.0 assists across 15 VTB games.
