Joel Bolomboy joins list of players leaving CSKA Moscow

Joel Bolomboy has left CSKA Moscow due to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, the team announced earlier today.

Following the departure of Tornike Sengelia, Iffe Lundberg, Johannes Voigtmann and Marius Grigonis, Bolomboy becomes the fifth player of the EuroLeague side to depart.

“Joel Bolomboy has left the club, for family and personal reasons related to the current situation between Russia and Ukraine, as well as its possible consequences,” CSKA noted  in a statement.

Going through his fourth season at CSKA and in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague, the dynamic forward averaged 5.9 points, 4.1 rebounds, 0.7 blocks, 0.3 steals, and 0.3 assists through 23 EuroLeague games.

Bolomboy is a Russian international player, but also Ukrainian-born. CSKA noted in a statement on Sunday that the actions of the players are a violation of the terms of the contract and club regulations.

But, the club treats the personal situation of each of the players with understanding. The status of player agreements will be resolved when the political and sports situation in Europe returns to normal.

CSKA will host Real Madrid Friday in a neutral venue as EuroLeague decided the previous week. On Monday, the competition is set to announce the city that will host the three Russian clubs.
