FIBA announced on Monday its decision to postpone the game between Ukraine and Spain on February 27.
The Federation made that decision for security reasons and has rescheduled the contest for June or July.
Here is the official statement of FIBA, as released on Monday:
“FIBA announced on Monday the encounter between Ukraine and Spain for Gameday 4 of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 European Qualifiers, scheduled for February 27 in Kyiv, is postponed and will be played either during or following Window 3 of the Qualifiers, in June-July this year.
The FIBA Executive Committee reached this decision in consultation with the FIBA Europe Regional Office and following a thorough assessment by its security advisor.
The decision and the related security assessment do not affect any other games of Group G, where Ukraine and Spain participate, or of other Groups of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 Qualifiers, which remain as originally scheduled.
This includes the Gameday 3 encounter between Spain and Ukraine, with Spain as the hosts, which will take place on Thursday, February 24 in Cordoba.”
The second window of the 2023 Basketball World Cup Qualifiers will take place late this week (February 24-28).
