Fenerbahce were among the teams that officially voted against the cancelling of the games against the Russian teams in the EuroLeague.
Fenerbahce released an official statement on the potential decision to omit results. If CSKA Moscow, UNICS Kazan, and Zenit Saint Petersburg end up being suspended for the season, the final standings of the 15 remaining teams will be calculated without considering the games played against them.
Fenerbahce will drop to 10th place with a 9-13 record in the projected standings in case EuroLeague decides to suspend Russian teams for the season.
In its statement, Fenerbahce does not agree with the way the voting occurred as the teams voted “in favor of their own interest”.

Per Fenerbahce:
“Following the meeting held by EuroLeague on Monday, February 28, where the decision was made to “freeze all matches in which the representatives of Russia will participate”, the necessary adaptations to complete the current season in the EuroLeague were discussed, in case the relevant teams could not continue their matches this season, and various alternatives were evaluated.
At this point, from the beginning to the end of the process, our club was in contact with both the EuroLeague management and the other 12 teams that are our partners in the EuroLeague structure, and offered various alternatives in order to resolve the extraordinary situation in the most fair way for everyone.
In this process, it was played and concluded by our club on the field; It has been repeatedly shared with all our stakeholders that ignoring the matches that had an impact on the matches played after that point, within the framework of many factors, is completely against the natural dynamics of sports.
Despite this, due to the structure of the EuroLeague, 13 teams voted and in the voting concluded on Monday, March 7, a total of seven EuroLeague A licensed teams voted in favor of their own interests, some of them in the standings, and some of them, the reason for which we can not understand at all. This attitude led to the decision, by a majority of 7 to 6 votes, to delete all matches played with Russian teams.
Our club has shared and will continue to share the message “No to War” in the strongest way on every platform; will also support any action to be taken towards this priority.
However, we believe that in such extraordinary situations, sensitive decisions to be taken should always be in the fairest way for organizations rather than individual interests.
At this point, he would like to express that we are deeply saddened by the disagreement with Anadolu Efes, another representative of our country in the EuroLeague, in this sensitive view, the correctness of which we strongly believe; We leave the evaluation of this situation to the discretion of the public and sports fans.
We want it to be known that; Despite this decision, our team will continue its struggle in the strongest way possible by integrating with our supporters in the remaining six competitions, as it has done throughout the season, in order to achieve the result it deserves.”
