Fenerbahce had a tough season with many ups and downs, especially in the EuroLeague. Fener’s outspoke president Ali Koc admitted he will take responsibility for any failure this season.
“If there is a failure in Fenerbahce, which has not been the way we wanted in the last period, I am responsible for this, not just one of our board members,” Koc said, per Eurohoops.net.
Fenerbahce are still in play for the Turkish BSL title after making the Finals a few days ago surpassing Darussafaka 3-1 in the semifinal series. However, they could not make the postseason in the EuroLeague finishing with a 10-18 record.
“Sertac Komsuoglu works day and night there. Hopefully, in a few weeks, we will be sharing very good and interesting developments with you,” said Koc.
It’s unclear to what Koc is reffering to, but Fener’s name has been part of many offseason rumors so far. Jan Vesely and Nando De Colo —the two building blocks of Fener’s team in the last seven years—are reportedly close to the exit.
As a result, the Turkish giants are expected to have a very active offseason hoping to return to the upper echelon of the EuroLeague competition. The Fenerbahce boss also talked about the financial situation of the club.
“We are no longer fighting against Besiktas and Galatasaray,” he stated. “We are struggling with the teams of corporate companies that are much richer than us and do not have debt problems.
