FC Barcelona prevails over Bayern Munich for series’ lead

FC Barcelona was able to withstood Bayern’s runs to prevail over the Bavarians 77-67 in Game 1 of the EuroLeague best-of-five series. Bayern started the game strong and took a 13-22 lead early in the first quarter.

FC Barcelona used their depth to bounce back and made a 33-11 run to take a 45-33 lead in the half. Bayern tried to get back in the game again with a 10-0 run early in the third quarter (45-43).

Barca kept its composure and the lead entering the fourth quarter with Dante Exum providing a spark that carry the Spaniards to a 14-point lead (67-53). Bayern was able to make a last run in the game to get close (64-69).

The Spanish giants allowed just three points in the last 4:22 of the game to run away with the victory in Game 1 of the series. Brandon Davies had a team-high 19 points along with five rebounds.

Danet Exum and Nikola Mirotic had 12 points each for the winning side. Vladimir Lucic was Bayern’s top scorer with 20 points and Darrun Hilliard had 12. Hilliard appeared to have a hand injury during the fourth quarter.

Bayern bounced back several times, but FC Barcelona utilized its depth and achieved the first win of the series. Both teams will face each other on Thursday for Game 2.
