EuroLeague Diaries: Mike James dominates Milan in Monaco’s win

AS Monaco Basket is one step away from making the EuroLeague playoffs for the first time in the history of the club. Monaco downed Olimpia thanks to star guard Mike James.

Monaco could clinch its playoff place if ALBA Berlin loses to Anadolu Efes Thursday night. James made a three-point play on his team’s first possession and went on to top Monaco’s scoring with 19 points in nearly 34 minutes on the floor.

He also added seven assists, four rebounds and two steals making some big plays during the last three minutes to put the game away. James struck a long two for a double-digit lead (54-64). James then hit a floater and Hall added a pair of dunks to seal the huge win.

“We’ve been fighting for the playoffs for about three months. We gotta keep the same energy. In the second half, we really picked it up and played good and came out with the win,” AS Monaco Basket superstr said after the game.

Georgios Papagiannis dominates against Real’s star-studded frontline

Panathinaikos closed his final game of the season at home in a positive note as the Greek club downed Real Madrid for EuroLeague round 33. Papagiannis started the game with an impressive stat line of 4 points, 6 rebounds and 4 blocks in the first quarter alone.

Papagiannis has steadily become a double-double machine this season being one of the best contributors for the struggling Panathinaikos. The Greens will finish in the bottom-2 in one of the worst seasons in team history regarding the EuroLeague competition.

Papagiannis is one of the positives the Greek club can take heading to the 2022-23 EuroLeague season. Papagianis is the leading rebounder with 8.1 in 27 contests and third in two-pointers made with 4.7 per game.

The Greek NT big has a career year with his team in both ends of the floor averaging 1.6 blocks per game, which ranks second in the league. Papagiannis is also Top-10 in PIR despite his team’s struggles.

He proceeded to add one more block the rest of the game along with 18 points and 10 rebounds to match his career-high points and notch his seventh double-double. Panathinaikos has two games remaining for the end of the EuroLeague season.

“Today with the last home game of the season I wanted to give my best from the beginning until the final buzzer sounded. I’m really happy that we beat Madrid here because we have lost many games to them.

We have two more games away and want to finish the season successfully,” Papagiannis said on his team’s win.
