Ettore Messina praises Sergio Llull after performance against Milan

Sergio Llull put up a vintage performance in Real Madrid’s 92-88 win over Olimpia Milano Thursday night.

The veteran guard had been limited to just a couple of points before halftime, but he stepped up after the half-time break.

He finished the contest with 20 points leading his team to an OT victory in Round 29 of the EuroLeague.

“In the final part of the game, Sergio Llull played the way Sergio Llull can play, that is, like a champion,” Milan head coach Ettore Messina said after the game. “He took a lot of responsibilities and played great late in the game.”

Los Blancos put a stop to a four-game losing streak in the EuroLeague. Llull also had 20 points in the previous contest vs Crvena Zvezda.

Finding his footing for the last part of the regular season could play a huge role for Real’s success in the competition. Trey Thompkins and Llull rallied Real to force overtime Thursday night.

In the overtime, Llull put on a show, igniting the crowd with a three-pointer from the right wing and adding a fadeaway jumper and a driving layup for a 90-83 Madrid lead.

Real was able to hold on to the win and improve to 21-7 as Llull, Yabusele and Deck combined for 51 points last night.

“I think we needed a win at home against a really good Milan team with an amazing coach, also, and we just fought. We have to keep working and fight until the end.

We played with heart. It is what you have to do in this kind of game, at home, with our crowd. And I said, we fought until the end and got the award, the victory,” the veteran guard said after the game.
