After five seasons, Krunoslav Simon and Anadolu Efes are parting ways. The back-to-back EuroLeague champions made the announcement Friday. Simon, 37, joined the Istanbul team in 2017 and has since been crowned champion in the EuroLeague twice.
Efes announced the team will retire Simon’s jersey as he was a huge factor in the club’s success the last five seasons. He’s finishing his career with Efes having two EuroLeague titles, two domestic titles, two domestic cups and Turkish Super Cups.
In the 2021-22 campaign, severely impacted by injuries, had 27 games played in EuroLeague with averages of 6.9 points, 2.8 rebounds, 2.6 assists. The Turkish club became the first team since Olympiacos in 2013 to win back-to-back EuroLeague championships.
Simon became the fourth player to exit the championship squad of the team, along with James Anderson, Adrien Moerman, and Filip Petrusev. The Turkish powerhouse has made several moves this offseason.
They signed Egehan Arna, Amath M’Baye, Will Clyburn, and Ante Zizic to the squad in addition to various key players staying from last season’s roster like Shane Larkin and Bryant Dunston.
