Crvena Zvezda endured the comeback attempt of Real Madrid and went on to claim a crucial home win (65-62).
The Serbians relied on their defense and kept their playoff chances alive. On the other hand, the “Whites” could have forced overtime, but Sergio Llull (20 points) missed the game-tying three-pointer.
Crvena Zvezda were in control from the majority of the night and led by seven at halftime (35-28). Real quickly turned things around (43-42) and things didn’t change unti the end.
Nikola Ivanovic made a pair of free throws, Llull missed the three-pointer and the hosts sealed the deal.

MVP: Three players scored in double figures for the winners, with Ivanovic making the game-winning free throws.
Key to victory: Zvezda’s defense was key for the Serbians’ win. The hosts kept the “Whites” to 46.4% shooting and 24.3% from beyond the arc.
Following its victory, Crvena Zvezda has now won four of its last five and improved to 12-15 in the standings. For its part, Real Madrid is on a four-game losing streak, but remained second with a 20-7 record.
Later this week, Crvena Zvezda will host Maccabi Tel-Aviv, while Real Madrid will welcome Armani Milano. Both games will take place on Thursday (March 10).
