Joan Penarroya and Baskonia have reached an agreement on a two-year deal, Eurohoops reports. A two-time champion in Basketball Champions League with San Pablos Burgos, Penarroya spent the last season with Valencia.
Valencia reached to the EuroCup semifinals with Penarroya, but lost to Virtus Bologna, which won the competition. Valencia was hoping to keep the 53-years-old in its bench but the two sides never find common ground.
Valencia’s season came to an end after losing to Baskonia in the Liga ACB quarterfinals 2-1. Baskonia will face Real Madrid in the semifinals. The Spanish club started the season with Dusko Ivanovic, but they could find their balance as a team.
The veteran Serbian coach was replaced by Neven Spajia, who led the team the rest of the season. The Spanish giants improved their standings in the EuroLeague, but could not make the playoffs finishing with 12-16 record.
