LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne signed former USC alumni Johan Mathews to a one-year deal, the club announced Tuesday. Mathews is coming off several productive seasons in the European stage and he will make his debut in the EuroLeague.
Mathews, 24, averaged 18.0 points, 3.8 assists, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.5 steals per game in Poland’s PLK playing for Anwil Wloclawek last season. He started his pro career in Sweden with Koping Stars and then joined Anwil.
He helped his side become the champion of the inaugural season of the European North Basketball League and was named in the All-PLK team during the past season. Mathews was the 4th best scorer in the league.
The French team had already added Parker Jackson-Cartwright, Nando de Colo, and Amine Noua to start the offseason. ASVEL won the French league last season, and the team hopes to make an appearance in the top-8 of the EuroLeague next season.
