Bayern Munich sharpshooter Andreas Obst recently talked about his time with the German powerhouse and how he approaches the game even in the top-tier competition of the European basketball scene.
Obst joined the Bavarians last summer after two seasons with ulm Ratiopharm. He became one of the best shooters in the continent, shooting the lights out in EuroCup and German Bundesliga.
“I never expected to be in European competitions like [the EuroLeague]. I thought maybe I’ll go to the first league,” Obst said, via EuroLeague.net. “That I made it now is really nice for me. It means a lot.”
Obst is shooting 36.4 percent from deep in his debut season in EuroLeague. He averaged 11.0 points on 51 percent shooting from beyond the arc in EuroCup last season.
Bayern, at 12-13 so far, has a legit chance to make the postseason for the second consecutive season. If the EuroLeague suspends the Russian teams for the season, then the German powerhouse could potentially end up 5th or sixth in the standings.
Whatever the case is, Obst will continue to having fun, while playing for one of the best teams in the easyCredit BBL.
“You have to have fun in basketball. If you don’t have fun, if you don’t enjoy the process, enjoy playing basketball, enjoy also somehow the grind.
You have good days, you have bad days, but these bad days lead somewhere to having better days and you have to enjoy the whole process somehow.”
Due to health and safety protocols, EuroLeague suspended the makeup game between Bayern and Fener, which was bound to take place Tuesday. The Bavarians will hope to return to action at the end of the week vs Olimpia Milano.
“I want to be successful with the team. That’s the most important thing for us after last season, which was very successful and historic for German basketball,” Obst said. “I want to play at a high level and compete. I want to learn a lot and enjoy it.”
