A classic derby between two EuroLeague powerhouses tips off Round 28 on Thursday afternoon.
Anadolu Efes and Fenerbahce meet again, two weeks after Efes’ triumph in the Turkish Cup Final. This time, though, their clash will be for the regular season of the Euroleague.
At the moment, the form and the situation of the two teams are the exact opposite. To be more specific, Efes has lost only once in its last 10 games (an overtime loss to Olympiacos in a late thriller at Piece and Friendship Stadium).
In addition, the reigning EuroLeague champions are getting better and better game after game.
Especially after the latest news about the Russian teams (currently out of Euroleague) and their exclusion, due to the war in Ukraine, the standings have changed and Efes is close to the top four spots for the first time this year.
On the other hand, and despite its recent excellent form, Fenerbahce seems to have lost its momentum after the Cup defeat.
The paradox is that its winning streak started after the Euroleague’s first round defeat to Efes and ended the same way, followed by two more EuroLeague losses.
Furthermore, in their last ten head-to-head games, no matter the competition, Efes has nine wins, with Fener winning only once in the Turkish Championship. Ergin Ataman’s players will also seek to sweep the season series with their rivals.
In conclusion, if I was betting here, I would choose Efes’ win with 4.5 points handicap, which we can find in an odd near 1.50.
Psychology and the “Hall”… count!
A big game against the backdrop of the playoffs is taking place today in Belgrade, where Crvena Zvezda will face Baskonia.
The hosts, having the momentum on their side after winning the domestic cup (and after the exclusion of the Russian teams, just like Efes), want to make a step closer to the first eight places, aiming to join the postseason.
Generally, they are in a good condition. Seven wins in the last eight games for the Serbians (they only lost to PAO at OAKA).
At the same time, Baskonia counts six defeats and only two wins. We must notice that none of these two winning games took place in the Euroleague.
Actually, Baskonia has not won in the Euroleague in 2022, with its last victory taking place in December 30, 2021. Crazy, isn’t it?
In their head-to-head history, the Spanish club has a slight lead with 7-6 wins, which I believe will come into balance today.
With the energy of their fans and the recent form, I would choose to bet for a Zvezda win today, not messing with handicaps. We can find this option in an odd near 1.47.
So…
Anadolu Efes – Fener: 1 -4.5 (1.50)
Crvena Zvezda – Baskonia: 1 (1.47)
