Houston Rockets big Alperen Sengun will participate with the Turkish NT in the 2022 EuroBasket. Sengun has a stellar rookie year with the rebuilding Houston Rockets. He has averages of 9.4 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.4 assists through 69 games.
According to Adam Spolane, Sengun will travel to Turkey to spend time with family after the end of the season. He will return to Houston for training camp and the Summer League and then get back to Turkey for the 2022 Eurobasket.
Sengun has showed incredible potential as a mobile bigman in the young core of the Houston Rockets. The Rockets are expected to have another lottery pick this season, having the worst record in the Western Conference.
The Rockets have four remaining games to end the regular season in the second year of a complete rebuilding process. Sengun was selected 16th in the 2021 NBA draft.
Turkey is in the Group A with Spain, Russia, Bulgaria, Belgium and Georgia. The competition will be played between 1-18 September in four different European countries.
The Turkish Basketball Federation officially parted ways with the previous head coach Orhun Ene on Monday. Turkey lost three out of four games in Group B of the ongoing stage of the 2023 FIBA World Cup Qualifiers.
The NBA season starts in October, so Sengun will be able to start the year in Houston despite participating in Eurobasket. Sengun seems to be an important part of the Houston’s future alongside the second overall pick of the 2021 NBA draft Jalen Green.
Alperen Sengun said he will go home to Turkey after the season to spend some time with his family, but will return to Houston for Summer League minicamp, and will go back to Turkey to play for the National team at EuroBasket 2022 — Adam Spolane (@AdamSpolane) April 4, 2022
