Maodo Lo made the best performance of his EuroLeague career and led ALBA Berlin past Olympiacos (90-75).
Lo scored a career-high 27 points, along with seven assists, five rebounds and a PIR of 34 for the winners. On the other hand, Sasha Vezenkov flirted with another double-double for the losing squad (19 points, nine boards, four steals).
The Berliners were in control after the first quarter and closed the first half in front by seven (37-30).
The “Reds” attempted a comeback, but ALBA retained its lead until late in the third (55-46, 57-51). The hosts relied on their offense in the fourth, scored 33 points and cruised to the victory.
MVP: Maodo Lo was unstoppable. His career high in points made the difference for ALBA and let the Berliners clinch a crucial home win.
Key to victory: ALBA made 13 three-pointers in 21 attempts. Some of them came in the fourth quarter and helped the Germans take the upper hand and cruise to the victory.
This was the fourth straight win for ALBA Berlin, which improved to 11-16. On the other hand, Olympiacos saw its four-game winning streak come to an end and dropped to 16-10.
Under the new standings, though, and without the Russian teams, ALBA is just two wins away from the playoffs (9-12). Meanwhile, Olympiacos is at 15-8 and missed a chance to climb to third in the standings.
Next week, ALBA travels to Vitoria-Gasteiz to take on Baskonia (March 18). On the other hand, Olympiacos will play Zalgiris Kaunas (rescheduled game, March 15) and Panathinaikos (March 17).
